Large Family Humor
You know you have a large family when:
- Nearly everyone you meet counts your family as you walk by, then approaches you to say, “Excuse me. Are they ALL yours?”
- People jokingly comment that you have enough children to form a hockey, basketball, baseball, or soccer team.
- Country folks say you should start your own 4-H club.
- The grocery cashier sees your week’s groceries, and assumes you’re stocking up for hurricane season.
And the latest which still has us laughing:
- A friend – who’s never seen your whole family seated in the van before – chuckles, and wonders aloud if there’s enough oxygen for everybody in there.
We have other ways to know if you have a large family, and we always enjoy sharing the humorous moments at our house!

People have asked me before if my kids were ALL mine as if four were a lot. “Yes! And we are blessed to have them!”
I have always gotten “large family” comments when we just had three children. Now we have four and the baby is a toddler now so it’ll just get worse
Our “looks” started when we had only 4 children. The strangest incident, though, was one day at Sam’s. I had three children with me and the check out clerk said, “You sure do have a lot of children!” I had to take a second look to see if we multiplied in the store. No, there were still just three of them. I let the clerk know that this was only half of them. Now we have one more! And two grands! We did get some confused looks recently when we went with all seven children, son-in-law and two grands to a restaurant to celebrate Devin’s birthday.
It is great to have a big family. It is never boring.
